What to look for in a Quality Multivitamin or B Vitamin By Michael Gallagher CLE, Nutritional Consultant
• Vitamin B12 as Cyanocobalamin is not as beneficial as methylcobalamin. Cyanocobalamin is derived from Cyanide (poison) and sourced from sewer sludge at a water chemical treatment and very cheap and not bioavailable. The most bioavailable form is Methylcobalamin which is the active form.
• Vitamin B6 as P-5-P (Pyridoxal 5 phosphate), is the activated form of B6 and is the most bioavailable form. It is important in the production or seratonin & gaba - your happy hormones). The other form is Pyridoxine Hydrochloride or HCL which is not only the inactive form and cheaper form but emerging research shows on the cellular level, it blocks the other B's from getting into your cells..
• Folate (important for Pregnancy, Brain, Heart, Liver) & there are 4 generations of folate: 1st Generation: Green Leafy Vegetables (eat as much as possible) 2nd Generation: Folic Acid (the problem with folic acid is that if you have a genetic snip called MTHFR then it is hazardous and toxic to your brain, heart, and liver.) It is estimated that 50% of the population has this! 3rd Generation 5- Methyl (better then Folic acid but not the best). Also a drug company Merck makes it! 4h Generation Quatrefolic (10 times more bioavailable then 5 Methyl and the only form to pass the blood brain barrier!)
So if you just look at these 3 ingredients in any supplement you will know the quality of the formula and the integrity of the company. If they are cutting corners in any one of these ingredients, it is a red flag and they are cutting corners elsewhere in the formula as well!
